Meridian’s Fourth of July celebration promises to delight everyone, Cultural Affairs Director Terrence Davis said, with live music and a spectacular fireworks display over beautiful Bonita Lakes Set at Lake Meridian Park, Kent’s annual FREE Fourth of July event is a great way to celebrate Independence Day. This free, outdoor event will run from 5–10 p.m. There will be live music, food trucks and more, with fireworks going off at 10 p.m. Park gates open at 3 p.m. for drop off only. The pandemic halted Splash in 2020 and 2021 and last year the city had music and activities but no fireworks show due to a lack of staff in the Kent Police Department and city Parks Department. Local governments cannot restrict usage during this period but can allow additional days or hours. Fireworks must be used only on private property. It is illegal to set off fireworks on public spaces like streets, sidewalks, schools or churches. Violations may result in fines of up to $500. Shuttle buses run approximately every 20 minutes from each parking area to Lake Meridian. Shuttles will start at 3 p.m. and run until after the fireworks display.
