Twenty years on we return to the 1996 hit ID4, which arrives on UK Blu-ray with an impressive 4K-remastered dual-cut 2-disc feature-packed release. Roland Emmerich’s science fiction disaster epic Independence Day arrives on 4K UHD in what could be one of the best film to 4K transfers yet for the new format. The set also includes the excellent 2-disc 20th Anniversary Edition on Blu-ray. Set twenty years after the original film, Independence Day: Resurgence opens on an Earth united in an effort to exploit the recovered alien technology in defense of Humanity. 'Independence Day' welcomes arrives with a vivid, but imperfect HVEC/H.265 encode and HDR10 / WCG grading that is framed in the film's original 2.39:1 aspect ratio. Before I dive in, I want to make very clear this Ultra HD Blu-ray represents the best 'ID4' has ever looked on home video and will be the way I revisit this film. Independence Day: Resurgence begs for even an ounce of narrative sense as the overblown and even needless action spreads through the plot hold-riddled story. Pointless cameos, wacky characters, and empty spectacle hang heavily on this sequel. Independence Day: Resurgence comes to Ultra HD Blu-ray from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment featuring 2160pHEVC encoded video and lossless Dolby Atmos/TrueHD 7.1 channel sound that has an average bitrate of 5 Mbps.
