Hillsdale College, in partnership with the White House Salute to America 250 Task Force and the U.S. Department of Education, has launched “ The Story of America ” – an educational video series that celebrates the nation’s founding with clarity, depth, and heart. As part of its nationwide educational outreach, Hillsdale College has distributed more than 4.5 million copies of its Pocket Constitution, containing the complete text of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. After signing your pledge to participate in the “Preserve the Declaration Project,” you will receive a free downloadable copy of the Declaration of Independence for reading aloud on the Fourth of July. Hillsdale College is celebrating America's 250th with “The Story of America,” a video series produced in partnership with the White House, celebrating the people, ideas, and events that have Hillsdale is partnering with the White House to celebrate America’s 250th birthday with explanations of the history and meaning of the Declaration of Independence through text, audio, and video. Led by Hillsdale College President Larry P. Arnn, the course also examines the major challenges posed by Progressivism to American constitutionalism. In 1826, Thomas Jefferson was invited by the mayor of Washington, D.C., to celebrate the 50th anniversary of American independence. Although Jefferson’s failing health prevented him from attending, the author of the Declaration replied with his last letter—he died just weeks later on July 4—offering a beautiful reflection on America’s founding and a message of hope for the nation’s Declaration of Independence in this new video. 🇺🇸 This is the latest episode of “The Story of America,” a co-production of Hillsdale College, the White House, and the U.S. Department of Education. Declaration of Independence In Congress, July 4, 1776 The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America, The Hillsdale College Pocket Constitution is a small booklet containing the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. These booklets are available for free via an online form or mailed request. The college first printed the Pocket Constitutions in 2011. On July 4, 2026, Americans will celebrate 250 years of independence, honoring those who risked their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to found our great experiment in self-government. A Hillsdale spokesperson told Politico the college did not take “a dime of federal money” for the video lecture series, which it is providing in partnership with the White House and the Department of Education The series explores the story of America’s founding, from the first shots at Lexington and Concord to the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the birth of a new republic. The most recent video in the series, “The Formation of the Army,” premiered on June 12. At Hillsdale College, all students read and study the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution in depth, because we believe that self-government leads to liberty and, ultimately, the pursuit of happiness.
