Today, the Azerbaijani people celebrate the 107 th anniversary of their independence, marking the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic on May 28, 1918 – the first secular republic in the Muslim East. Azerbaijan’s first independence was declared on 28 May 1918, with the formation of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR).
